Microsoft Event Celebrating New Partnerships: Technology, Heritage, Culture

Tuesday, 13 May 2014

“Microsoft Event Celebrating New Partnerships: Technology, Heritage, Culture” will be organised on the 15th of May in Brussels, Belgium in the newly opened Microsoft Innovation Centre. We will be a celebrating two innovative cultural and tourism portals that have been created using Microsoft Bing Maps technology.

The Portals were developed as platforms for two very broad European Programmes with a vision that the technology platform could not simply serve existing needs, but should actually facilitate the growth and evolution of the Programmes themselves. Partnering with European institutions and ACTE as an important INGO, in the areas of culture and heritage, represents a new opportunity for Microsoft to learn and discover new ways to serve society with our technology.

One portal, developed for Council of Europe and the European Commission Programme, is a public sector platform. It serves governments and local level communities that engage, every year, in implementing one of the biggest participatory cultural programmes in Europe: The European Heritage Days.

The other portal, Wine Community Platform, developed for the international non-governmental Association, ACTE, is a private sector platform. It serves all individual, organisations and communities involved in Wine Community Platform.

Both portals seek to promote the digitisation of heritage, democratise access to regional and global heritage and culture, and facilitate cross-sector, cross-frontier exchanges of information, goods and services between the heritage, cultural and tourism sectors.
